The Development Engineering Services Transportation Section of the ROWS division is hiring for a full-time, unlimited Engineer. This role will be part of a team responsible for ensuring land development projects meet or exceed the City’s transportation requirements resulting in high quality and safe infrastructure development in the City Right of Way.


As an Engineer with the Transportation Team of the ROWS Development Engineering Services Section, duties include:

  • Review and evaluate design plans, architectural drawings and/or project/development documents submitted for approval utilizing applicable codes/standards/guidelines/laws, appropriate municipal ordinances, and construction and engineering standards. Determine review fees and authorizes the release of approved documents for city permits
  • Review transportation engineering plans, traffic impact studies, and private development site plans
  • Check engineering calculations for transportation and reviews civil/site engineering and provide timely oral and/or written communication detailing design and/or construction deficiencies in plans and specifications on routine/moderately difficult designs and plans
  • Prepare a variety of engineering correspondence, records, files, and reports
  • With DOTI engineering colleagues, attend meetings with other governmental entities such as Community, Planning, & Development or Denver Parks and Recreation, CDOT, RTD, and represent the city's interests. Participate in design coordination meetings regarding private development projects and city, state, and regional capital improvement projects in order to ensure timely approval and completion of projects and resolve any problem areas
  • Cultivate, foster, and maintain positive working relationships with managers, supervisors, employees, and other stakeholders to gain their cooperation and support on assigned projects/assignments


Our ideal candidate will have:

  • A focus with plans reviewing with Civil Engineering degree
  • Experience reviewing or preparing civil engineering documents for land development or roadway projects
  • Proficiencies with wide array of technologies such as MS Teams and Outlook, Office 365, Adobe Suite, Bluebeam Revu, AutoCAD, SharePoint, MS Word and Excel, Accela Civic Solutions
  • Knowledge of Geographic Information System (GIS) system capabilities
  • Ability to be mentored and learn from Senior Engineers municipal engineering experience in managing stakeholders and sensitive public engagement activities and demonstrate flexibility and ease in interactions with stakeholders
  • Understanding of general principles and practices of Transportation and Utility engineering and construction with educational and/or work experience in design, review and/or inspection of transportation/roadway and/or utility plans

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
  • Experience: Four (4) years experience as an entry level Engineer
  • License/Certifications: Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application
  • Requires registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) by the Colorado State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers at the time of application. Registration in another state will be accepted in lieu of this requirement, provided that the applicant has Colorado registration at completion of probation. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for experience requirements
