Join our Statewide Project Delivery Branch’s Construction Section as a senior quality assurance coordinator! In this role, you will ensure the required quality assurance testing is performed consistently and accurately throughout the region. A day in the life:
 
  • Establish and oversee the assurance testing facility which tests field materials such as asphalt, aggregate, soils and concrete.
  • Coordinate the quality assurance program both regionally and statewide.
  • Assign required testing and inspection of materials to employees.
  • Apply a broad range of engineering methods and procedures to determine solutions for problems encountered during construction.
  • Conduct duties required of the region radiation safety officer.
  • Develop, modify and implement short and long range goals related to the quality assurance program and the products and materials incorporated into projects.
  • Work with local and federal agencies in planning, developing and coordinating their quality assurance programs.
  • Assemble and evaluate data gathered from paving projects, and prepare reports recommending changes or improvements in construction process, design and specifications.
  • Obtain quality assurance test samples at production facilities or project work locations.
  • Evaluate test results for compliance with specifications and recommend acceptance, rejection or alternative uses of construction materials.
  • Work is typically performed outside but some in office work using a computer is required.
  • Duties involve working with hazardous chemicals, equipment and radioactive sources, lifting up to or over 60 pounds, working in adverse weather and on rough terrain and work is subject to being on call 24 hours a day including weekends and holidays.

What we need:
Seven (7) years of civil or transportation-related engineering or surveying experience. Two (2) years of this experience must have been independently planning and completing assignments in drafting, field or laboratory inspection, construction contract administration, surveying, materials testing, or traffic investigations;
 
OR
 
A bachelor's degree in civil engineering, surveying or transportation-related engineering and four (4) years of civil or transportation-related engineering or surveying experience;
 
OR
 
An equivalent combination of education and experience.
 
Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

  • Strong knowledge of mathematics and highway construction procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of computer word processing, spreadsheet and document programs.
  • Ability to successfully and effectively work as a member of a team.
  • Experience, training and knowledge of civil engineering and transportation project development.
  • Ability to read and understand construction contract documents including plans, specifications and estimates.
  • Current/valid certifications:
    • Certified Aggregate Technician (CAgT)
    • Certified Embankment and Base Technician (CEBT)
    • Quality Control Technician (QCT)
    • Certified Density Technician (CDT)
    • Certified Asphalt Technician 1 (CAT-1)
    • Certified Asphalt Technician 2 (CAT-2)
    • Concrete Control Technician (CCT)
