POSITION SUMMARY:  

The Electrical Test Engineer III will work on multiple highly complex major projects requiring innovative, original solutions and is expected to plan multiple projects concurrently. The Engineer will lead a group of engineers and will be responsible for budget and manpower estimates. The Engineer will be involved on multiple systems and subsystems of the vehicle with a detailed understanding of how these systems interact. The test engineer will work with a multi-disciplinary group of engineers while learning how to leverage hardware, firmware, and software solutions to validate products to rigorous internal and automotive-industry standards.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Engineering responsibility throughout all stages: concept, requirements definition (iterative), prototype, architecture development, vendor selection (support to Supply Chain), design validation and optimization, volume tooling and processes for start of production and production ramp-up. Life-cycle improvements and cost reductions as needed
  • Vehicle Electrical architecture analyze, decide and design: location of any centralized controllers, decisions between centralized and distributed control, functional safety concept development and guiding team members in implementation of the functional safety concept
  • Design, build, instrument, and automate test equipment for mechanical, thermal, and electrical systems.
  • Work together with Design Engineers, Reliability, Regulatory, Quality, and Service to identify failure modes and generate design validation test plans.
  • Collaborate with test technicians to perform component, system, and vehicle validation by simulating realistic and/or accelerated dynamic usage and environmental conditions.
  • Investigate device failures to drive product development and test improvement.
  • Identify and execute DOEs targeting new technologies or critical failures.
  • Interface and simulate complex vehicular systems to validate firmware/hardware interactions.
  • Work closely with suppliers and test labs to plan and track the test progress
  • Responsible for a wide variety of electrical components and wire harnesses in vehicles, both in production and in development
  • Responsible for technical activity and completion of activity on time and budget
  • Set up hardware validation tests, capture data and electronically organize results
  • Analyzes test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications
  • Control/manage products from design (including quality & cost) scope to achieve defined targets through product development activity
  • Create supporting documents for targeted design related activities/objectives and present to customer and internal groups for successful results.
  • Must possess good communication, organizational and presentation skills
  • Uses computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform assignments
  • Demonstrated experience with the use of computer-assisted engineering tools and general knowledge of test equipment
  • All other duties assigned

 

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES & SKILLS

  • Must be well organized and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Must be willing to work more than 40 hours per week periodically to complete the job
  • Understanding of complex electrical/ control systems within the supported product lines.
  • Remote monitoring and autonomous vehicle experience is a plus
  • Strong understanding of the principles of electrical engineering.
  • Ability to communicate ideas and concepts from the customer to the engineering team and
  • from the engineering team to the customer.
  • Ability to translate customer requirements into engineering principles, make sure that
  • requirements are reasonable, and then look for components and subsystems that would
  • implement the concept.
  • The ability to understand what is readily available off-the-shelf and what needs to be
  • designed from scratch.
  • Strong understanding of engineering specifications of components.
  • Strong ability to integrate various components from different vendors into a fully functional
  • and coherent system
  • Working experience with electrical test equipment, hand tools, power tools.
  • Experience creating and executing design validation plans and test methods to validate
  • performance requirements.
  • Experience in EMC/EMI test and standards
  • Experience in DFM, production and EOL testing

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimally a bachelor’s degree in electronics/electrical engineering and/or equivalent in experience. A master’s degree is preferred.
  • 10+ years related experience

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Basic working understanding of Analog and Digital Circuit Design, Linear Circuit Design, Power Electronics, Inverters, Motor Drives
  • Experience with Python, NI, or other data acquisition and analysis software.
  • Automotive experience.
  • Experience with electric vehicles (EVs)
