The Opportunity

The SR 520 Bridge Replacement and HOV Program (SR520) and Alaskan Way Viaduct Replacement Program (AWV) is eager to hire an experienced engineer looking to advance their career into a senior leadership role to serve as our next Construction Project Engineer. The SR 520 and AWV programs are high visibly and complex multibillion dollar programs, and the Construction Project Engineer will be responsible for providing construction oversight for the SR 99 South Access Surface Street Connections project, coordination with the Office of the Waterfront Main Corridor and Marion Street Pedestrian Bridge project as well as managing the SR 99 Demolition Decommissioning and Surface Street Project. What to Expect

Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Construction Project Engineer will:

  • Oversee and manage a Project Office of 15-25 WSDOT engineers and engineering technicians in addition to consultant staff in the Project Office. 
  • Manage all personnel issues within the Project Office, working with AWV and SR 520 program management and the Northwest Region HR department. 
  • Identify and manage project risks and report project status, progress, and project finance to WSDOT leadership. 
  • Provide leadership and direction to interdisciplinary teams, including both State and Consultant staff to execute work plan. 
  • Assist in working with internal and external stakeholders to resolve any issues, negotiate permits, negotiate agreements, and changes. 
  • Assist in developing, planning, and implementing delivery strategies for various project components. 

 

Qualifications

To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license 
  • Current driver’s license
  • Ability to manage and administer multimillion dollar budgets. 
  • Knowledge of roadway geometrics, hydraulics, structures, right of way, utilities, traffic analysis, soils, traffic design elements, landscape, construction practices and delivery methods, and environmental engineering. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbal and written, and negotiate with a variety of audiences. 

 

It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:

  • Six (6) years of professional civil engineering experience, managing highway and bridge or heavy civil projects and direct staff
  • Two (2) years of experience managing/supervising a diverse workforce of engineers and technicians on highway and bridge or heavy civil construction projects.
