Job Description:

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is seeking a Field Engineer (Engineer III) to be part of their Region Three team, in Orem, Utah.

Principal Duties
As a Field Engineer, you will support a construction crew and assist the Resident Engineer in management of personnel and budgets. Your duties include:
  • Monitoring construction contracts.
  • Managing personnel and budget.
  • Evaluating critical path schedules and writing change orders.
  • Working in a team to meet quality, scope, schedule, budget, and safety requirements on assigned projects.
  • Performing field inspections and material analysis.
  • Writing or drafting technical reports, articles or related material based on research, investigation or analysis.
  • Working with the public who may be impacted by the projects.
 
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for this position will have:
  • An active Professional Engineer license in Utah in accordance with the provisions of Utah Code Annotated 58-22.
  • Prior experience in administering heavy civil construction projects, and reviewing plans and specifications for constructability.
  • Experience with CADD/computer assisted drafting and design.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Experience working with the public and contractors.
  • Excellent skills in identifying and solving complex problems.
  • Excellent understanding of the UDOT partnering process and ability to work with the public.
  • The ability to mentor and train others.

Preference may be given to those who have at least 1 year of experience in the construction or materials field.

This position may be filled at the Engineer II level for those applicants without a Professional Engineer (PE) license in Utah. In order to qualify for the level II, the applicant must have successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Examination and have completed at least two (2) years of post-graduate engineering experience. The Engineer II salary range is $26.64-$44.60.
