In addition to building, maintaining, and operating the state highway system, WSDOT operates the largest ferry system in the nation, manages the world's longest floating bridge, and recently completed the world's widest tunneling project. 
 
The Opportunity
WSDOT is seeking and experienced engineer to serve as the Business Services Engineer for our SR 520 Bridge Replacement, HOV Program and Alaskan Way Viaduct Replacement Program (AWV) in Seattle, WA. This position will play a key role in this multibillion-dollar program by overseeing the business operation, contract administration, invoicing and payments, electronic document management, and other quality control. 
 
 What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Business Services Engineer will:

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for a multitude of business service activities. 
  • Be responsible for successful management of the complex responsibilities of the Business Services team, including verifying invoicing practices comply with applicable policies and regulations.
  • Clearly communicate with various local, state, federal, and external groups and serve as the program representative during internal and external audits. 
  • Utilize WSDOT programs such as TRAINS, PCMS, and COGNOS. 
  • Create and maintain manuals documenting program business services processes and procedures ensuring transparency and continuity of business operations.
 
Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
  • One (1) year of experience as a Transportation Engineer 2, Transportation Planning Specialist 2, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience working with and interpreting consultant agreement contracts. 
  • The ability to prioritize workload and manage multiple assignments. 
  • The ability to understand and interpret federal, state and agency laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. 
  • Clear and effective communication skills both written and verbal. 
  • Experience working with Adobe, Excel, Word, Outlook, and SharePoint.
 

It is preferred that qualified candidates also have: 
  • Two or more years’ experience processing and/or overseeing WSDOT business services function including contract payments, purchasing, travel, internal/external audit coordination and inventory management. 
  • Experience working with agency specific software/programs such as TRAINS, COGNOS, FIRS, ECM Portal.

  • The salary listed for this position includes a legislative approved 5% premium for workers in King County.
