Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is the steward of an integrated, multimodal transportation system that helps to ensure that people and goods move safely and efficiently throughout the state. In addition to building, maintaining, and operating the state highway system, WSDOT operates the largest ferry system in the nation, manages the world's longest floating bridge, and recently completed the world's widest tunneling project. 

 

The Opportunity

The SR-520 Bridge Replacement and HOV Program (SR520) and Alaska Way Viaduct Replace Program (AWV) is eager to hire multiple engineering professionals to serve as our next Assistant Office Engineer. The SR520 and AWV programs are highly visible, political, controversial, and complex multibillion dollar capital construction programs, and the Assistant Office Engineer will provide administration of the contract and ensure contract compliance. The primary undertaking of this position is to ensure document control and contract administration. The Assistant Office Engineer will play a vital role in WSDOT's successful delivery of the SR520 and AWV programs, maintaining public confidence and helping the public travel safely.
 
What to Expect

Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Assistant Office Engineer will:

  • Develop a document control and tracking system utilizing Contract Manager, SharePoint and ProjectWise. 
  • Track and monitor using a master list, contract submittal, shop drawings, forming plans, RFIs, etc. 
  • Track correspondence between WSDOT and external stakeholders. 
  • Maintain and develop a risk log registry. 
  • Monitor for MSVWBE and DBE participation requirements. 
  • Assist in the facilitation of contract payments, tracking schedule and budget, and the development of agreements.  

 

Qualifications

To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:

  • Two (2) years of experience as a Transportation Engineer 1, Transportation Technician 3, or equivalent experience. 
  • Current Driver’s License
  • Ability to exercise sound engineering judgement, interpret and analyze construction contract plans, specifications, permits, and other documentation for conformance with policies, regulations, and standards. 
  • Fluency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Strong understanding of construction practices and engineer principles. 

 

It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification
  • Experience working on WSDOT projects. 
  • Fluency in the use of Primavera Contract Manager and SharePoint. 
  • Knowledge and experience with contract administration. 
  • Familiarity with WSDOT, SDOT, MUTCD, and AASHTO standards.
