Dura-Line is currently hiring for an experienced Engineering Manager in our Western Canada - Edmonton manufacturing site who has an engineering and project management background to champion the site’s lean manufacturing processes and manage capital & expenditure projects at the site.

 

In this critical role, you will initiate and implement technical improvements of the manufacturing process that affect equipment efficiency, employee safety, and product quality. You will oversee the manufacturing operations, conduct root cause analysis to assess the capabilities of the processes, resolve technical problems, and implement corrective actions.

 

As the engineering technical manager, you will be responsible for handling the capital project and expenses (CAPEX) budget for department and facility. This includes preparing and administrating site’s budget and guidelines, developing economic analysis for significant cap-ex investments, monitoring equipment inventory and expenses, and manage asset capitalization and disposition at the site.

 

In this exciting role, you will develop standard work procedures, training guidelines for employees, and collaborate with the Plant Managers on the use of the different cap-ex related resources to improve efficiency and productivity. You will coordinate monthly cap-ex reviews and reporting and actively identify efficiency gaps and optimization opportunities. As process owner, you will be responsible for obtaining quotes, pricing options, and place order for implementation projects such as new production line or equipment introduction or enhancements, machine guarding, scrap productivity, safety enhancement on machines, new product introduction (activity, tools, process), preventative maintenance programs, etc.

 

We need someone with strong project management and documentation skills to train and guide the team on new process implementation and drive a continuous improvement mindset and culture. You will need a strong business acumen, lean manufacturing/continuous improvement/5S experience (lean certifications is a plus), experience managing annual budgeting processes, and creating business cases for capital investments. You will be responsible for reporting and creating a checklist with milestones, setting goals and accountability for the team, and keep the teams on track for the process implementation, are you up for the challenge?

 

What else can help you succeed in this role? A successful track record of managing capital projects in a manufacturing environment, a strategic focus, and organizational skills to identify and prioritize the most critical and impactful issues and opportunities to drive long-term success. You must be able to synthesize data and summarize outcomes to provide recommendations on a compliant path forward.

 

 Must have excellent communication as it will require you to outline the process and manage the project and influence and engage employees. You must have empathy, be a respectful and humble leader. We are looking for a creative thinker and problem solver with strong organizational skills. An engineering degree (mechanical, industrial, electrical) with excellent computer skills (Microsoft Excel, MS Project or similar project management software), and experience using ERP System (SAP is a plus) is required for this role. A background in manufacturing floor and working in facilities where there was a strong discipline for standards and job instructions is key to be successful.
