Job Description:

This position is within UDRI’s Aerostructures Team which offers significant experience working with airframe structures, landing gear, tires, transparency systems, radome structures, and engine components. The Aerostructures Team is part of the Structures Group which has solved complex engineering problems and conducted structures-related research and development for over 40 years. The Aerostructures Team and Structures Group are key contributors to the integrated and dynamic Applied Mechanics Division that provides comprehensive capabilities for systems engineering, design/redesign, analysis, prototyping/fabrication, testing, and qualification in order to transition “real-world” hardware solutions for air and ground vehicles and complex test equipment.

UDRI is seeking an entry-level engineer to support various aircraft structural integrity programs. Specific job duties will include the following: developing and analyzing large technical data lists/sets to assist in completion of component risk assessment and probabilistic age assessment of various aircraft structural systems; performing structural analysis/finite element analysis (FEA) of aircraft components; developing highly detailed computer aided design (CAD) models, assemblies, and drawings of aircraft structural systems; and, developing technical documentation including presentations, reports, drawings, and other engineering data.


Minimum Qualifications
-- BS in Aerospace, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering from ABET accredited institution.
-- Coursework and/or experience working with SolidWorks solid modeling software
-- Coursework and/or experience working with MATLAB computer programming software.
-- Coursework and/or experience in statistical analysis of data sets.
-- Coursework and/or experience using FEA software for structural analysis.
-- Fluent in Microsoft Office Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
-- Strong verbal and interpersonal skills.
-- Excellent attention to detail.
-- Ability to interact effectively with other engineers and current and potential customers.
-- Ability to complete work efficiently and in a timely manner.
-- Due to the security clearance requirements of this position, US citizenship is required.
-- The candidate must be able to pass a National Agency Check.


Preferred Qualifications

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

-- Experience using computer programming for engineering applications with languages such as VBA, Python, Java, FORTRAN, or similar.
-- Experience creating and managing large data sets in formats such as binary MAT-files, Excel, CSV, or similar.
-- Experience using MATLAB for data analysis, including applications of probability and statistics, regression, and related methods.
-- Experience using FEA software such as Abaqus, Ansys, Hyperworks, etc.to solve structural analysis problems.
-- Two or more years of experience and/or professional certification using SolidWorks solid modeling software.


Special Instructions to Applicants

A federal court on December 7, 2021, issued a ruling that suspends the COVID-19 vaccine requirement that applies to federal contractors nationwide.
