Planate Management Group (PMG) is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, and Orlando, Florida USA with a technical support center in South East Asia and East Africa, that provides program management and facilities engineering services worldwide. Planate is a small business provider of planning, design, infrastructure management, technical consulting, engineering, and construction management services in support of the US Department of Defense (DOD) and its Service (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps) missions, along with other US federal agencies, all over the world.

A Specification Writer will perform primary source for Architectural/ Engineering and Related Professional Services to include planning, design, and construction period services on various facility projects for construction, maintenance, and/or repair of infrastructure and real property. This is to support the VAMHCS project located in Washington DC.

This position is contingent on the award of the contract.

Key responsibilities:                      

  • Provide the DCVA with sound management advice regarding all work performed on DCVA projects via task orders issued under the BPA. For each project, the goal shall be to achieve the best value in the work being performed by controlling the schedule and budget
  • Proactive in helping to resolve problems and minimize claims taking all reasonable measures to anticipate problems and delays and to minimize or eliminate their adverse impact on project completion.
  • Throughout performance under this BPA, the Specification writer must take the initiative and act to mitigate circumstances that could lead to claims, resolve conflicts promptly, and keep the Government advised of any potential disputes
  • Exercise all due diligence, utilizing competent personnel within authorized limitations, to make certain that work is performed in conformity with applicable requirements (codes, regulations, standards, A/E Leasing contract plans and specifications)
  • Develop a good understanding of the principles of Federal Contracting and VA contract administrative processes.
  • Advise the CO/COR/PM immediately of any potential delays in completion of work associated with task orders and any problems that are outside the responsibilities of the Specification writer per the BPA and/or task orders issued
  • Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate. 

Qualifications To be successful in the role: 

  • Must have 3-5 years of experience in construction and/or engineering work environment interfacing and coordinating with an A/E staff responsible for facility design engineering and construction requirements
  • Knowledge with specification software and technical background in interfacing with engineering and construction professionals required. Professional experience should also include strong technical writing skills.
  • Excellent English is written and verbal communication skills
  • Has the US driver’s license and must lawfully reside in the United States and be eligible for employment (Planate does not sponsor visas or work permits)
