Job Description:

Under the general supervision of the Vice President of Venue Operations, the Director of Facility Engineering is responsible for overseeing effective operating procedures across Marcus Performing Arts Center. This position serves as a high-level engineering leader with the technical depth and imagination to define, implement and revise operational policies and guidelines for MPAC, develop and execute new growth directives, ensure effective operation and oversight of all building mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) systems and functions. The Director of Facility Engineering will also lead and manage all facility related activities, including building and grounds maintenance, engineering and code compliance. This position manages and directs the performance of a team of 7-10 engineers under the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 420.    
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Direct, supervise, schedule and budget all aspects of Facility Engineering, including Building; Grounds and Custodial Services (including ongoing cleaning, event cleaning and portering services).
  • Manage conceptual and feasibility work.
  • Oversee Project Management and Construction administration.
  • Lead the inception of and Chair/Co-Chair a Safety Committee with the Director of Security, using Fire/Life Safety, Emergency and OSHA regulations as the fundamental guidelines. Review, adjust and implement preventive maintenance schedules, emergency procedures, safety and Risk Management policies in compliance with all Corporate and governmental regulations, in collaboration with other leaders.
  • Systems design and specification.
  • Act as liaison to public utility, environmental, and energy agencies. Assist VP of Venue Operations in implementation of any energy saving guidelines.
  • Contract document production support.
  • Critical path scheduling.
  • Provide management support to our capital systems, and assisting in the planning, forecasting, execution, and capital projects.
  • Proposal development.
  • Direct and oversee special projects, such as construction, remodeling or expansion. Plans and directs outside vendors/contractors work to assure compliance with contracts and safety requirements.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field OR 10 years of comprehensive work experience in a comparable position with large, modern building complexes or similar structures required. 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Superior project management execution skills.
  • Proven experience of leading, mentoring and managing a team with the development, implementation and execution of project plan objectives and strategies.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA requirements, industry standard safety requirements and knowledge of local City and County ordinances, codes and permitting requirements.
  • Knowledge of computerized building maintenance, HVAC monitoring computer systems and reading blueprints.
  • Strong coaching and employee development skills. 
  • Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication and attention to detail skills needed. Resolute yet diplomatic; firm yet respectful of other’s concerns; flexible and creative in finding alternative solutions to challenges.
  • Proficient computer skills, specifically with Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to coordinate many projects simultaneously.

The employee may frequently climb and work from a ladder or lift and/or work in confined spaces. This position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from multiple people and interact with the public and other staff.
