The Opportunity

WSDOT is seeking an innovative engineer to serve as a Geo/Pavement Engineer in our South Seattle project office. The primary undertaking of this position is to produce surfacing reports, pavement rehabilitation reports, and soil and foundation reports. As the Geo/Pavement Engineer, this position will play a vital role in WSDOT's successful delivery of WSDOT projects, maintaining public confidence and helping the public travel safely.
 
What to Expect

Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Pavement Engineer will:

  • Prepare pavement rehabilitation and surfacing reports in accordance with WSDOT policies and directives for pavement rehabilitation of existing roadways and new design sections for widening and new alignments. 
  • Perform records research, field reconnaissance and the evaluation and analysis of existing pavement structures. 
  • Assist Senior Engineering Geologist in records research, field reconnaissance and evaluation of laboratory soils data and preparation of soils reports in accordance with WSDOT policies and directives. 
  • Assist the Geotechnical & Pavement Engineer supervisor in developing field exploration plans for the core driller to assess field soils and pavement conditions. 
  • Assist the region’s Material Engineer and Senior Geotechnical & Pavement Engineer in trouble shooting soil and pavement problems. 

 

Qualifications

To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:

  • Current driver’s license
  • One (1) year of experience as a Transportation Engineer 1, Transportation Technician 3, Bridge Engineer 1, or equivalent geotechnical or civil engineering design experience. 
  • Understanding of engineering principles, mathematics, the SI and English unit systems. 
  • Proficiency in the use of various Windows based programs including Access, Excel, Word, Outlook, and other software programs as needed. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent understanding of WSDOT engineering practices including design and construction skills. 

 

It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geology, or closely allied field. 
  • ArcGIS familiarity to be able to produce maps. 
  • Engineer-In-Training Certification
