About the Position
This position, within Global Off Highway Product Development organization, will support the development of Aviation tires as a Resident Engineer onsite in the Danville, VA manufacturing plant. The candidate will work in a team environment, seeking solutions to technical challenges, and utilizing lean principles to enhance global standards and processes. The Resident Engineer position is a conduit bringing product design knowledge to the plant & learnings about the plant/manufacturing process to bring that knowledge back to the product development team.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop and enhance products, processes and methods that meet internal and/or external customer requirements
- Translate product requirements into product design features
- Contribute to the manufacture of quality products, and the enhancement of manufacturing processes
- Work in a team environment towards bringing new product technologies to market
- Strong communication skills [written/oral] in presenting data and information to others
- Act as the Communication link between product development team and the plant - Facilitate meetings/action plans and linkage between DFMEA and PFMEA
- Interface and work with global regions of the organization, across multiple functions (product development, manufacturing, Quality)
- Assist with check builds for technical and production releases of new products
- Support plant process changes for potential impact on product performance
- Support plant trials for effectiveness and potential impact on product performance
- Support return tire forensic analysis
- Assist in plant improvement opportunities to determine required design changes
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree – Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related discipline required
- Master’s Degree or Experience in similar disciplines is considered a plus
Desired Skills and Abilities
- A basic understanding of science and technology in applicable disciplines
- A basic comprehension of statistical design and analysis; cause-and-effect analysis; risk analysis; lean principles
- Display data interpretation skills, and the ability to apply this skill to product development
- Ability to accomplish assignments in a logical fashion, using existing technology and standardized methodologies
- Basic organization, communication, and experimentation skills
- Knowledge of Computer Aided Design is desired
