Position Overview
Provides Construction Management on a variety of Kitsap County Public Works capital construction projects to ensure projects are constructed in conformance with the contract documents.  Position duties include: coordinating and  assigning on-site inspections of road, bridge, and sewer construction to monitor the quality of the work being performed by the contractor and quality control of the materials utilized in the project for conformance to approved plans and specifications; supervising, assigning, coordinating and reviewing for compliance required materials testing as specified in the plans and specifications of projects; representing the County as the Assistant Construction Manager on before the public in construction projects; coordinating and conducting safety inspections of existing bridges in accordance with mandated timetables and requirements; applying civil engineering principles to solve problems as they arise in the construction process including making "in-field' engineering decisions in collaboration with the Construction Manager and the Design Engineer to generate necessary change orders. This position typically serves as a lead on construction projects and supervisor to the inspectors.
 
Required Education and Experience
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE)*; OR
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) AND four years of construction management (infrastructure construction)/civil engineering experience serving in the capacity as a project engineer, project lead, construction manager, superintendent or construction inspector; OR
  • Bachelor's Degree in construction management or related (civil) engineering field; AND four years of construction management (infrastructure construction)/civil experience serving in the capacity as a project engineer, project lead, construction manager, superintendent or construction inspector;  AND 
  • One year of lead worker or supervisory experience.
*Industry specific certification such as a Project Management Professional, Professional Surveyor, Construction Management Professional, etc. may substitute for the PE. Land surveyor in training may also substitute for the EIT.**"Engineering" means the "practice of engineering" as defined in RCW 18.43.020. Note: Qualifications for this position must be met; no other equivalencies accepted.
