R&D Thermoplastics Chemist Pennsylvania 
 
Our client is a global leader in the building materials industry and is growing dramatically.
 
They need a Thermoplastic Chemist to join their Research & Innovation Center and be responsible for research activities on new and existing products as well as identifying and implementing new technologies within the thermoplastics business group.
 
The Thermoplastic Chemist will Research and Develop chemical formulations within the product line she/he holds primary responsibility.  The role includes but is not limited to innovating new products and processes, supporting existing products and processes, optimizing operational costs and installation costs, quality assurance of raw material specifications, as well as the design and performance requirements of products used in building envelope systems. 
 
The Thermoplastic Chemist will research latest technologies using laboratory, pilot-scale, and plant-scale processing equipment to create new products and building assemblies, test methods, formulations, and processing techniques.  Effective communication of this knowledge will be demonstrated by teaching others, sharing knowledge, and collaborating with stakeholders within and outside our organization.
 
Responsibilities: 
  • Research, literature review and data analysis for new product and technology development
  • New Product formulation research and development
  • Existing Product line formulations and raw materials
  • Utilize design of experiments as applied to development of chemical formulations
  • Work with Pilot Plant scale process equipment and Plant batch- and/or continuous processes
 
Requirements:
  • BS Polymer Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering MS is preferred.
  • Research experience in a manufacturing plant, test lab, or R&D facility.
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of physical, chemical, and mechanical behavior of thermoplastic polymers such as PVC, PP and PE
  • Experience with polymer characterization techniques: FTIR, GPC, TGA, DSC, TMA, SEM
  • Experience with polymer processing such as extrusion, calendaring or injection molding
  • Handle multiple projects when acclimated
  • 10% travel required
