Job Description:

Duties:

The Engineer / Water Master Planner duties include

  • Perform hydraulic modeling and analysis for highly complex raw water supply and potable water distribution system engineering projects
  • Responsible for managing the water system master planning program
  • Coordinate water system capacity improvements with Operations and Maintenance staff, Design & Construction, and Regulatory Compliance engineers
  • Supervise technician staff
  • Coordinate with various governmental agencies routinely on water resource and quality issues and needed improvements; manage a team of technical staff
  • Analyze impacts of new developments on water supply capacity and recommend improvements to the system
  • Development of the Capital Improvement Program budget.

The individual hired for this position will be required to work with limited supervision and continually apply independent decision-making skills.

Special Instructions:This person is considered an Alpha I position and may be required to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies, regardless of the City operational status.

Valid North Carolina or Virginia Driver's License is required.

Min/Special Requirements:MINIMUMS: Requires a Bachelors Degree from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) approved engineering or engineering technology program with possession of a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license from the Virginia Board of Architects, Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, Certified Interior Designers and Landscape Architects (APELSCIDLA) and five (5) years of progressive professional experience, OR, an Associates Degree in Engineering with seven (7) years of progressive professional experience and a possession of a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license from the Virginia Board of Architects, Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, Certified Interior Designers and Landscape Architects (APELSCIDLA). SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
