The Materials Engineering Technician will be responsible for aiding in developing and maintaining materials and requirements for use in assembly or component designs of Space Systems products. The Engineering Technician will help test and document materials and concepts, coordinates and executes test plans, documents material design and verification, and investigates material non-conformances.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops general understanding of softgoods materials and their testing and manufacturing processes specifically for Space and Mask applications.  
  • Applies skills to research, test and evaluate materials for use in space flight programs.
  • Develops general understanding of product verification methods including product testing such as inflation and leakage testing as well as materials physical properties testing
  • Maintains engineering and material control documents to ensure compliance with Space Flight Hardware requirement, including material drawings, Material Identification and Usage Lists databases, Materials issue tracking reports and other Program documentation related to material/product definition and control
  • Develops and utilizes technical writing skills, specifically in the areas of material testing reports and presentation of testing and analysis to the internal team
  • Utilizes internal process documentation, acronyms, and general procedures, including the ability to create or generate engineering change documents, requisitioning for procurement, and drawing release documentation
  • Develops and utilizes team skills and interpersonal skills, including listening effectively, sharing information amongst team members, communicating among a large and varied production team, and coordinating activities based on project schedule requirements

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to work on Government programs (U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident of the U.S.)
  • Associates degree in science field or working on Bachelor’s of Science degree in science related field is required.  Knowledge in Material Science or materials testing preferred
  • 2 years of relevant experience preferred
  • Must be proficient with Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software; Presentation software and Internet software
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public
