The Space Systems Engineer will be responsible for the input to and verification of engineering designs to specification requirements for new or improved products and equipment. This verification can be accomplished by inspection, analysis, similarity through comparison, or test of the design. The candidate should understand basic material compatibility with space environments and softgoods. Reviews the work of members of the project teams to ensure conformance with established guidelines, methods, procedures, and policies. Provides technical oversight and assistance to other departments as required. Provide support to in-field applications if necessary. This position is subject to moderate supervision with latitude for independent judgment. The Ideal candidate will have a background in aerospace with experience in aircraft pressurization systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Interfaces with customers, defines system interface, and conveys requirements to Design Engineers
  • Evaluates and trades potential system and component requirement options at all levels
  • Performs qualitative and quantitative analysis of options and makes recommendations to both internal and external customers
  • Reviews product design to ensure all specifications and system interface requirements are met
  • Prepares product verification plans to demonstrate compliance with specification requirements
  • Prepares test plans and procedures for systems, subsystems, and components that must demonstrate compliance through testing
  • Provides engineering direction of test efforts on assigned programs. Reviews test results and provides input to other engineering personnel as needed
  • Disseminates engineering inputs to other departments for use in the preparation of technical orders, manuals, logistics support, reliability reports, maintainability data, and system safety inputs
  • Prepares material for presentation and participates in design reviews with both in-house personnel and customers in attendance
  • Provides technical support to customer servicing requirements, including the preparation and presentation of technical proposals
  • Provides management with status information on all significant work items such as technical status, impending problems, and schedule conflicts
  • Provides input to engineering costs and schedule development, and assures compliance with customer requirements
  • Conducts analytical system analysis studies during concept development phases of products
  • Supports off-site testing of Company products/systems at vendor or government facilities
  • Develops and utilizes computer skills, as applicable, in performance of all duties
  • Develops and utilizes team skills, including listening effectively, sharing information amongst team members, and coordinating activities based on project schedule requirements
  • Develops and utilizes project organizational skills, including methods of working multiple projects, organizing and upkeep of project files, utilization of email and calendar systems, meeting scheduling, keeping meeting minutes, and planning methods for schedule completion
  • Utilizes internal process documentation, acronyms, and general procedures, including the ability to create or generate engineering change documents, disposition of quality discrepancy reports, requisitioning for procurement
  • Must be able to interpret technical documents, blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics
  • Continually strives for improvement of products through feedback and voice of customer data
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to access shared database with government programs (U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident of the U.S.)
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, or related field of study; 5 years of experience performing similar tasks is preferred
  • Proficiency with word processing software; spreadsheet software.
  • Demonstrated, strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate well with peers and cross-functional teams and external customers
  • Experience with PTC Windchill a plus.
