The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) owns, operates, and maintains eight major toll facilities comprised of four bridges, two tunnels, and two turnpikes, across the State of Maryland.  Nature of Work:   The MDTA is seeking an experienced project manager with a focus on projects in the areas of Electrical Engineering and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).  This role will primarily focus on the direction of major programs involving planning, development, design, construction, maintenance, and operations of existing and new ITS and Electrical services involving multi-divisional support and coordination, system analysis and integration, and analysis of business, policy, and operations impacts.  This position will direct consultants, staff, and contractors on engineering projects involving electrical, electronic, computer or communications equipment and will coordinate work as needed.  
 
 Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Provide review, supervision, and direction to subordinate licensed professional engineer project managers in the planning, design, coordination, implementation, and management of Electrical and Intelligent Transportation Systems.  This will include major organizational components such as toll systems, security systems, tunnel control systems, and ITS consisting of incident detection systems, automatic traffic counters, dynamic message signs and control systems, fiber optic networks, and two-way radio systems;
  • Review plans, specifications, drawings, reports, or other documents for sound application of standards and practices;
  • Review and interpret Electrical and ITS codes and standards and render engineering judgements as the authority having jurisdiction;
  • Develop Electrical and Intelligent Transportation Systems projects consisting of innovative contracting methods such as design build, on-call services, design-build-operate-maintain, design-build-maintain and other specialist contract approaches;
  • Direct systems engineers in the development of Electrical and Intelligent Transportation Systems projects impacting major business and operations programs; and
  • Contact and collaborate with executive management personnel.
     
The employee in this position will report directly to the Deputy Director of Engineering. The current vacancy is in Baltimore, Maryland. Employees in this role may be assigned  duties that require the ability to lift up to 40 pounds, climb during field investigations, bend/crawl while examining equipment, transport electronic equipment, open panel boards, junction boxes, cabinets, etc., open manholes and handholes.

Qualifications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:  A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience:  Six years of experience in administrative or professional work.  Two years of this experience must have involved one or more of the following:  the supervision of other employees, overseeing and coordinating the general operations of a unit, applying rules and regulations, or exercising responsibility for the development of policies or procedures. **Three (3) years of this experience must include project management experience as it relates to electrical engineering or Intelligent Transportation Systems.

Additionally, the ideal candidate will possess:

  • Experience with designing Intelligent Transportation Systems
  • PMP Certification

Notes:     

1.  Additional experience in administrative or professional work may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2.  Additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university may be substituted at the rate of 30 semester credit hours on a year-to-year basis for the required general experience.

3.  Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policies, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.
 

 


Licenses & Certifications

 

Employees in this classification will be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.  Applicants must list the license number and date of expiration on the application.
