Job Description:

Job duties include office work, lab analysis, and field work.

Education Requirements:
Minimum: 2-year college degree (AA) in civil engineering or construction management.
Preferred: a 4-year engineering degree (BS) in civil or construction engineering or geology. Any other college degree with relevant knowledge and experience.
 
  • Office work includes working on proposals, fee estimates, design and drawing documents, design coordination with subconsultants, preparing construction cost estimates, specifications, reports, and other miscellaneous work.
  • Laboratory work will include: Materials testing for soils, concrete, aggregate, and asphalt.
  • Field work includes construction engineering inspections and materials testing on roadway, infrastructure, and building projects, drilling inspections, and environmental site assessments. Candidate must be physically fit to carry up to 60-pound of weight on site.

Computer Knowledge:
Must be proficient on MS Office Suite, Adobe PDFe, and AutoCAD programs.

Additional knowledge of technical software a plus (EG: Primavera or MS Project, and other engineering and graphic software). Proper training, certifications, and licenses will be offered depending upon the aptitude.


Technical Writing: Must demonstrate proficient speaking and writing English in engineering field. Familiarity with ASTM and AASHTO standards a plus.

Selected candidate will work under the direct supervision of experienced Construction Managers, Licensed Geologists, and Professional Engineers.

During the first year of employment, person will go through extensive training and orientation programs that will be geared towards: construction inspections on public projects, laboratory testing of soils, concrete, and other materials, geotechnical drilling monitoring and field logs preparation, preparing engineering reports from field inspections, preparing engineering proposals, and some CAD drawings, computerized boring logs and geotechnical reports, environmental site surveys and reports and minor civil engineering designs. Candidates may be sent to NCDOT, NCSU, and other Institutions to obtain certifications and licenses in various inspection and testing fields. Upon successful completion of training programs, candidates may be recommended to work on State Transportation and other Public / Private building and infrastructure projects.

 Person must be legal to work and with clean criminal background to work on Government projects.

Background check and drug testing are required. Valid driver license and dependable transportation to report to work are required.
