Supervisor:	Engineer III – Development Review

POSITION SUMMARY:
In this essential role within the City’s Engineering/Public Works Division, you will perform civil engineering duties related to the review of development projects, permit applications, and infrastructure design. You will ensure that all such projects comply with local engineering design standards related to water and sanitary sewer utilities, storm water quantity and quality, and transportation infrastructure, as well as state and federal requirements. You will work directly with City Engineering, Community Development, and Public Works staff to review and identify requirements. Employee will also manage projects identified in the City's Capital Improvement Program including projects for City-owned facilities. This position reports to the Engineer III- Development Review Engineering Manager.
 
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Engineer I:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or a closely related field; and
• 0-2 years’ experience in Civil Engineering; or
• Any combination of experience and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Engineer II:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field; and
• Considerable (3-5 years) experience in Civil Engineering; or
• Any combination of experience and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.

 
REQUIRED SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Engineer I:

• Valid Driver’s License (must obtain a valid Montana Driver’s License within 60 days of employment;
• Possession of an EI (Engineer Intern) Certification;
• Offers for employment are conditional upon satisfactory response to appropriate post conditional offer process.

Engineer II:

• Possession of a Montana Professional Engineer License, or ability to obtain a Montana Professional Engineer’s License within 6 months of the date of employment;

• Valid Driver’s License (must obtain valid Montana Driver’s License within 60 days of employment);

• Offers for employment are conditional upon satisfactory response to appropriate post conditional offer process.

 
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Thorough knowledge of generally accepted construction standards and construction methods, materials, techniques, phases, practices, and procedures;
• Thorough knowledge of modern practices of civil engineering related to planning, design, construction, maintenance and operation of a wide variety of public works facilities, including working knowledge of hydraulics, survey, road design, water, sewer, and storm design;
• Ability to develop complete and accurate plans, specifications, construction notes, and other project documentation;
• Ability to effectively and accurately interpret and enforce all relevant codes, ordinances, laws, and regulations;
• Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing, using both technical and non-technical language;
