The role:  
As our senior traffic engineer for the I-5 Rose Quarter Improvement Project, you will provide expertise and support in traffic engineering for staff and stakeholders with respect to traffic control features design, analysis and planning studies. You will focus on providing solutions to ensure the safe and efficient movement of traffic through the project area. Apply today!

A day in the life:
  • Provide technical leadership for project planning studies, traffic designs and specifications, and traffic analysis or modeling.
  • Evaluate traffic engineering problems and present solutions.
  • Develop resourcing strategies for traffic engineering support for project design, planning and evaluation.
  • Assist project director and deputy director in assigning and reviewing work.
  • Collaborate with project designers to resolve conflicts and provide recommendations and approvals.
  • Coordinate the development and administration of traffic discipline specific contracts and consultants.
  • Review consultant work products to ensure compliance with agency design standards, policies and guidelines.
  • Coordinate and recommend design alternatives, congestion mitigation and traffic control strategies.
  • Approve and recommend changes to traffic control devices in the Portland-metro region that apply to the planning, project design or construction for the Rose Quarter Project.
  • Prepare or coordinate written communications and review correspondences, plans, specifications, special provisions and technical reports.
  • Work in an office environment with occasional field work required; field work may involve working at night or exposure to traffic hazards.
    • The position is currently full-time remote until state offices are reopened to the public.  At that time, hybrid work options will be available.

What we need:
A valid professional engineer's (PE) license in civil, structural, or transportation-related engineering and three (3) years of journey level professional engineer experience.

Note: If registered in another state, successful applicants will be required to obtain professional registration in the state of Oregon within six (6) months of hire.
 
Driving is an essential function of this position. You must possess and maintain a valid driver license and acceptable driving record. Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.
