Straughan is currently seeking a highly motivated and versatile Senior Water Resources Engineer to join our Engineering Business Unit who has the ability to be a leader, deliver quality projects, and grow Straughan’s presence near Houston, TexasStraughan is currently operating under a flexible, hybrid workplace strategy that allows employees to work primarily from home with official schedules approved by their supervisor. The ideal candidate should have an interest in and understanding of current environmental issues and a shared vision for sustainability and resiliency.
Job Responsibilities
  • Lead and design best management practices for stormwater management and erosion & sediment control projects; Obtain permits from State and local agencies
  • Manage multi-discipline projects and client relationships, delivering projects on time and within budget
  • Develop storm drain design and analysis reports.
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses
  • Serve as a project manager for transportation projects
  • Perform Culvert and bridge hydraulic analysis, including scour analysis
  • Perform field work to evaluate field conditions
  • Communicate and collaborate with the project team, project managers, clients, and local communities.’
  • Conduct field investigations and scoping meetings
  • Support construction projects by reviewing submittals, answering RFI’s, and conducting field visits to ensure compliance with the contract drawings and specifications.
  • Mentor junior level engineers
  • Manage/Oversee the quality, timeliness, and financial aspects of projects including the development of scope, budgets and proposals necessary for contract negotiation
Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Civil/Environmental Engineering or related field
  • 5-8+ years relevant work experience
  • PE registered in Texas or ability to have by reciprocity, additional state registration/experience desired
  • Stormwater management design and permitting experience
  • Erosion and sediment control design and permitting experience
  • Hydrology & hydraulic analyses
  • Drainage system design experience
  • Project management experience
  • Proposal and task order development experience
  • Business development capabilities - must be comfortable marketing technical services
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate with others
  • Work in a manner to protect the health and safety by following company guidelines and policies.

  • TX DOT Pre-certified
  • Ability to work on large tasks involving mass transit/transportation projects
  • Coastal Engineering and Modeling
  • Stream restoration design including sediment transport modeling experience
  • Geomorphic assessment experience
  • Shoreline protection design experience
  • Scour Analysis experience
  • 2D Hydraulic modeling experience
  • Site design and LEED experience
  • Environmental consulting and/or civil engineering practices (Forest Conservation Plans, Wetland Delineations/Wetland Impact Plates, Planting Plans,  and similar environmental documents) experience
  • Active involvement in professional organizations
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance
  • NPDES experience
  • Rosgen certified
Software Experience
  • Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, and Project) required.
  • HEC-RAS desired
  • TR-55 desired
  • TR-20 desired
  • GEOPAK and/or INROADS desired
  • Proficiency in MicroStation or AutoCAD desired
  • Application of numerical modeling tools for simulating circulation, waves, water quality, sediment transport, or mixing (e.g. ADCIRC, Delft3D, SWAN, Mike, CORMIX) desired.
