You will be given the opportunity to oversee the health of the electrical infrastructure as part of the Department of Public Works at the Detroit Arsenal. We are the civilian workforce of the Army and we maintain infrastructure on the Detroit Arsenal, an Army base in Warren, Michigan.

Responsibilities:

• Investigate problem statements and develop contract packages that will lead to solutions.
• Scope projects by engaging multiple stakeholders, creating conceptual level design drawings, updating standard specifications, and developing a detailed statement of work.
• Assigned projects will focus on electrical issues but may also include a wide range of disciplines. Project assignments will be based on areas of expertise, work load within the Engineering Division, and funding availability.
• Create contract packages to be solicited as design-built contracts.
• Create contract packages to be solicited as construction contracts
• Create contract packages to be solicited as A&E contracts
• Complete cost estimates varying in size and complexity
• Serve as the DPW subject matter expert on all electrical issues
• Review design packages, submittals, requests for information (RFIs)
• Assist in creating a 3-5 year plan to maintain and improve the electrical infrastructure at the Detroit Arsenal
• Perform design and engineering on large and complicated projects where there is an obscure relationship to previous precedents and which involve conflicting issues between economic feasibility and the desire of management.
• Use creativity and experienced judgment in extending traditional techniques or developing new ones in order to solve complex engineering problems.
• Possess knowledge and experience in electrical engineering combined with special emphasis in electric power distribution and utilization systems.
• Study base plans, makes field inspections and surveys and confers with requesting officials regarding requirements.
• Responsible for organizing, scheduling, coordinating, controlling and furnishing technical guidance to staff engineers and engineering technicians on project assignments.
• Note: A Professional Engineer certificate is NOT required for this position

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field or combination of education and experience
• Minimum three years of relevant experience
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance

 
Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working with a Department of Public Works (DPW)
• Experience managing electrical projects
• Ability to create drawings using MicroStation and/or AutoCAD

 
Salary and Benefits

• $85,087 to $110,617 per year
• 4-8 hrs of PTO accrued every 2 weeks
• Consistent 40hrs/week of work with no expectation to work overtime. If overtime is needed employees will be compensated.
• Health Insurance: Great options available. Many options allow for employee to only pay 30% of the premium with the federal government paying for 70% of the premium.
• Leave: Regular paid time off accrued at 4 – 8 hrs every 2 weeks. For an employee accruing 6 hrs of regular leave per pay period (every 2 weeks) this equates to 19 days off every year and just short of 4 weeks every year. Exact leave will be determined based on experience and years working in similar positions. Furthermore you will accrue 4 hrs of sick leave every 2 weeks. These 4 hrs of sick leave will be accrued regardless of experience level. This equates to 13 days per year.
