The role:  
Apply today to join our team as a bridge system engineer! In this role, you will provide technical advice to senior management on policies, procedures, programs, plans and regulations that will directly affect the administration, planning or program management of bridges in the state of Oregon.

A day in the life:
  • Lead the development of a 25-year statewide bridge needs study used to justify major program funding level.
  • Develop technical guidelines and standards for conducting this major study.
  • Develop action plans and policies to support statewide bridge asset management, bridge performance measurement and the state bridge program project selection process.
  • Prepare long-range border bridge plan for the rehabilitation of bridges shared with neighboring states.
  • Draft intergovernmental agreements for project planning, development and construction.
  • Develop policies and procedures for budgeting and oversee the proper expenditure and tracking of all bridge fund sources.
  • Integrate bridge planning considerations in the efforts of the Transportation Planning Division to maintain and update the Oregon Transportation Plan, Highway Plan and the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) Users Guide.
  • Prepare draft programs and program evaluation reports.
  • Develop and prepare supporting information for legislative concepts, and review and comment on draft agency plans and policies.
  • Represent the department in public forums and occasionally make presentations to unreceptive audiences, such as explaining and discussing an unpopular department policy or decisions to partners and customers.
  • Work is performed in an office environment with remote work options.
  • Occasional travel required, including overnight stays.

What we need:
A valid professional engineer's (PE) license in civil, structural, or transportation-related engineering.
Note: If registered in another state, successful applicants will be required to obtain professional registration in the state of Oregon within six months of hire.
 
Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.
