Job Description:

The position will be focused on assisting other researchers in understanding the material science issues of additive manufacturing and connecting material properties to part end-use requirements. This will include assisting in planning and conducting experiments, analysis and reporting efforts related to material/process risk assessments and selection, troubleshooting, process improvement and/or material replacement, as well as structure-property and process-property relationships, and validation of part performance vs. end-use requirements. This position may involve handling metal feedstock powders and operating and maintaining equipment used in experiments or material characterization.

Minimum Qualifications
1. BS degree in relevant engineering field (such as materials, chemical, mechanical)
2. 1 year of experience with metals additive manufacturing including powder bed fusion technology in a manufacturing and/or industry setting (co-op/internship acceptable)
3. 1 year of directly related experience with metal powder characterization including knowledge of chemistry, size, morphology, and density analysis techniques
4. 1 year of hands-on experience with mechanical testing of metal and/or polymer specimens focusing on aerospace/defense application relevant properties including tensile properties, stress corrosion cracking, or fatigue crack growth rates
5. Experience with laboratory safety and metal powder safety protocol
6. Experience writing material specifications
7. Experience with procurement and setup of lab equipment and developing associated operating procedures
8. Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office products including MS Excel
9. Due to the nature of this position, US citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications
1. More than 1 year of experience with metals additive manufacturing in a manufacturing and/or industry setting
2. More than 1 year of experience with metal powder characterization
3. Experience working in a manufacturing environment
4. Demonstrated capability of working in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary team environment
5. Working knowledge of US Air Force policies and procedures
