Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Construction Division, Geotechnical Office in Tumwater, WA is currently seeking an experienced geotechnical engineer to fill a managerial vacancy. This position is an assistant to the State Geotechnical Engineer and provides strategic and tactical management of the Foundations Section. This position provides the lead for the Geotechnical Office for statewide geotechnical engineering of foundations for structures (e.g., bridges and marine facilities), retaining walls, highway cuts and fills, landslide repairs, geotechnical construction support, and maintenance and emergency response support services for the Department through a diverse group of 11 geotechnical engineers. The State Foundations Engineer is responsible for directing the execution of comprehensive geotechnical engineering studies and design for project definition and scoping; aiding in the preparation of engineering plans, specifications, and estimates; proactively supporting construction and maintenance activities; as well as providing strategic and technical planning input for workforce, equipment, information technology, and workflow needs. This position provides the lead for the Agency for geohazards characterization and mitigation and plays a pivotal role in the Agency’s emergency response to landslides, flooding, and earthquakes. This position also helps to develop foundation engineering technical policies and may include interacting with state and national geotechnical design code producing organizations, developing, and managing geotechnical research projects to develop and improve the technology used, and implementing these new technologies.
