Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is currently seeking an experienced engineering professional with exceptional leadership skills to serve as the Assistant Project Engineer for the South Central Region Construction Project Office located in Richland, WA.  The South Central Region encompasses a large geographic area of Washington State to include 3,111 highway miles, 460 bridge structures, and 5 Safety Rest Areas across several counties (Asotin, Benton, Franklin, Garfield, Kittitas, Walla Walla, and Yakima; as well as portions of King, Lewis, and Whitman counties).

The Assistant Project Engineer works directly with the Project Engineer to manage an engineering project office consisting of engineers and technicians along with clerical support staff. Construction project offices are responsible for the administration of Improvement (Program I), Preservation (Program P) and emergency contracts through the construction phase of the project (sometimes up to several years depending on complexity). The project office can also be assigned the development of projects through the planning, scoping, design, and contract preparation phases. The position reports to Project Engineer and in his absence to the Transportation Supervising Engineer for Construction and to one of two Assistant Regional Administrators depending on assigned projects.

This position is responsible to utilize a variety of advance management principles and coordinate with other organizational units to ensure projects are constructed and administered to meet Federal and State laws, legislative commitments and engineering principles for on time and on budge delivery of I& P Programs.
