Position duration: This is a one-year position. The appointment may be renewable depending on availability of funding and satisfactory performance.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The postdoctoral researcher will actively collaborate with members of the Inorganic Isotope and Heavy Element Chemistry Group to evaluate the biodistribution and functional genomic profiles of various metallic radionuclides, by implementing spectroscopic and functional genomic/metabolomic methods coupled to radiochemical detection for the analysis of biological samples under various contamination and treatment conditions. The postdoctoral researcher will perform research under the supervision of Professor Abergel.
Key Responsibilities:
• Design and perform radionuclide contamination and decorporation experiments with laboratory rodents.
• Develop equipment and techniques to systematically characterize the in vivo biodistribution profiles of radionuclides, as well as pharmacology profiles of investigational new drugs under different contamination scenarios.
• Extend the use of tandem mass spectrometry and X-ray fluorescence microscopy to the determination of radiometals, small molecule metabolites and proteins in biological samples.
• Extend the use of gene expression techniques to the determination of biological and mechanistic effects from contamination.
• Contribute to high safety standards and infrastructure of the Abergel Research Group.
• Prepare research presentations (both oral and written) on experimental results.
• Communicate results and participate in seminars and group meetings.
• Assist in directing students and research assistants.

QUALIFICATIONS

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

• PhD (or equivalent international degree) or enrolled in a PhD (or equivalent international degree) program.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

• PhD (or equivalent international degree).
• No more than four years of post-degree research experience by start date.

Preferred qualifications

• Ph.D. in Molecular and Cell Biology, Radiation Biology, Chemistry, Animal Science or a related field.
• Demonstrated record of accomplishment and achievement documented by scientific publications and presentations.
• Evidence of ability to work independently with a high level of scientific judgment.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate and effectively communicate with colleagues and peers within a diverse research team.
