Examples of Work
Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provide leadership, vision, and direction to teammates in the Bridge Division
- Provide technical expertise on all matters pertaining to structural design, hydrology and hydraulics, bridge management, safety inspections, and load ratings
- Stay knowledgeable of trends and current developments within technical areas relating to bridge design, operations, and maintenance
- Resolve challenges during bridge design, construction, and maintenance
- Partner with AASHTO in establishing national bridge policy
- Work closely with local/state/federal agencies, leadership, teammates, and colleagues to help drive NDOT initiatives and projects
- Provide oversight in the inspection and inventory of locally owned bridges throughout the State of Nebraska
- Review in-service bridges for performance, rehabilitation, and replacement
- Develop and coordinate Bridge Division budgets
- Actively participate in internal and external professional activities such as the Midwest Bridge Preservation Partnership group, North Central State Consortium, or other technical committees and industry standards development efforts
Qualifications / Requirements
Requirements:
- Licensed as a Professional Engineer (.P.E.) by the Nebraska Board of Engineers and Architects as time of employment (or be able to obtain such licensure within 90 days of employment), and progressively responsible licensed engineering experience as a second-in-charge to a Division Head, District Engineer, or equivalent agency manager, including experience developing performance goals and measures, preparing budgets for assigned projects or functional areas, and progressively responsible experience supervising, leading, and managing complex engineering teams within an organization
Preferred:
- Progressively responsible experience supervising, leading and managing complex engineering teams within an organization
- 10 + years of experience in bridge design and/or bridge construction
- Experience connecting and integrating strategy across multiple teams
- Strong communicator with excellent verbal, written and presentation skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and partnership focus
- Proven ability to build relationships, trust, and rapports, as well as impact, influence and collaborate at all levels of an organization
- Ability to build a strong network within the agency and leverage resources and relationships to get things done
Other:
- Valid driver’s license or the ability to provide independent authorized transportation
- Limited travel; with occasional overnight stays
- Regular and reliable attendance is also required
