Job Description:

SHINE is immediately seeking a Mechanical Engineer, with experience in installation of process equipment, reporting to the Chemical Process Systems Engineering Manager. This is an opportunity to work on first of a kind systems of a manufacturing plant for nuclear pharmaceuticals.

The Mechanical Engineer will focus on supporting the chemical and mechanical systems in the Chemical Process Systems engineering group, which ensure the safe, efficient, and effective operation of the facility. Key responsibilities include working with vendors to procure parts for fabrication, planning installation tasks and order, reviewing final design for installation, testing, and operability considerations, preparing, or approving equipment test plans, participating in acceptance tests, performing site walkdowns, and other final design, procurement, installation, and testing tasks. 

Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare and/or review installation plans for equipment installed in the main hot cell
  • Prepare and/or review design packages, specifications, test plans, calculations, reports, and drawings in the following areas:
    • Hot cell equipment installation and use
    • Piping, valves, and tanks design, use, installation, and testing
    • Confinement boundaries testing
    • Work with procurement to purchase equipment
  • Work with equipment vendors for on-time/on-budget design and/or delivery of equipment and parts
  • Perform owner’s acceptance reviews for vendor provided design products
  • Prepare/review test plans for acceptance testing of equipment
  • Perform walk-downs of installed equipment

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related discipline.

  • Ability to oversee multiple projects/activities in an environment with changing priorities
  • Willingness to learn, understand, and develop new technology
  • Ability to design first of a kind system in a team environment with coworkers and/or vendors
  • Experience making design decisions while taking risk into account
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • The following experience is preferred:
    • 4+ years of mechanical or structural engineering experience
    • Experience with installation of process equipment such as tubing, piping, valves, tanks
    • Experience with welding and fastening process equipment
    • Experience planning fabricating complex systems out of individual parts
