Job Description:

SHINE Technologies is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to guide the end-to-end engineering of our products, including neutron generators, radiography systems, and ion implanters.  This position works closely with the customer and/or project manager to develop requirements for each project.  This position interacts with all disciplines of the design team to guide the development of detailed product designs.  The ideal candidate will possess experience with developing complex electro-mechanical and software systems and be capable of analyzing the tradeoffs of a given system.

When you’re part of the SHINE Systems and Manufacturing team, you do important work like helping to:

  • Create the technology to facilitate the manufacture of medical radioisotopes to support the treatment of the 56,000 American patients that need it each day
  • Test turbine blades for our customers before they are assembled into jet engines
  • Verify the proper content of nuclear fuel rods
  • Identify & locate buried explosive devices
  • Create next generation technologies in the nuclear industry

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify, analyze, and document Customer Requirements and System Requirements and allocate to the lower level system elements with full traceability from stakeholder inputs to product design requirements
  • Work with team to create System Architecture to enable development, manufacturability, and serviceability, and reliability
  • Lead cross-functional technical meetings to evaluate design changes and catalogue project risks
  • Regularly meet with customers throughout all phases of a project
  • Understand customer use cases and ensure that they are properly regarded throughout the program
  • Collaborate with design team to define and analyze interfaces between system elements (both internal & external environments)
  • Collaborate with electrical, mechanical and software engineers, and scientists in defining and documenting system architecture and design, operational scenarios, and workflows
  • Facilitate resolution of critical system-level issues across the project
  • Drive and participate in hazard identification, risk assessment, and risk management activities
  • Guide development of system verification and validation test plans
  • Lead system integration project tasks
  • Participate in troubleshooting of electro-mechanical systems, including high voltage power supplies, ion sources, accelerators, and automated control systems
  • Contribute technical best practices across all engineering disciplines
  • Support project planning, scheduling, cost estimating, etc.
  • Travel may be required, including visits to customers and key vendors

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in physics or an engineering discipline or equivalent technical experience is required, MS is preferred
  • 7+ years of experience in a highly technical industry preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with data analysis and modeling tools, such as MATLAB and Python, is preferred
  • Experience with high reliability systems design is preferred
  • Strong technical skills with high voltage, ECR ion sources, automated controls, and vacuum technology are preferred
  • Relevant design experience is preferred
  • Familiarity with requirements management software (such as DOORS, Jama, or Visure) is preferred
