POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for providing a high level of organizational support for the quality management system, regulatory requirements and compliance, and system and process improvements. Leads root cause and corrective actions across multiple functions. Mentors other quality team members and supports other functions as required. Investigates, recommends, and leads continuous improvement actions. Requires minimal supervision with mostly independent work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

· Leads root cause analysis of product and process issues as well as calibration department issues or system problems, ensuring robust root cause and corrective action.

· Devise procedures and work instructions that are required per the Quality Management System and participates in the review and approval processes.

· Conduct technical audits of the calibration laboratory and calibration suppliers to verify traceability of standards and compliance with published standards and guidelines.

· Assembles, analyzes, and monitors appropriate metrics, suggests and implements improvements.

· Performs quality related activities associated with the nonconforming material control process.

· Leads and mentors the advanced quality planning processes. Examples include Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), First Article Inspection (FAI), Measurement System Analysis (MSA), and Statistical Process Control (SPC) processes. Assist in Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (FMEA).

· Works with suppliers to resolve product issues and make improvement recommendations.

OTHER FUNCTIONS 

· Drives and coaches the use of Continuous Improvement principles, methods, and tools.

· Performs vertical audits, monitors manufacturing activities, identifies improvement opportunities throughout the organization, and pursues corrective action.

· Non-conforming material control and material disposition processes.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Expert knowledge of and strong ability to drive Root Cause Corrective Action concepts/processes.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills (including presentations). Writes and presents technical reports to peers, management and customers.
  • Able to lead and manage multiple tasks with varying priorities and to work with various levels within the organization, customers, and regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to understand and teach interpretation of engineering specifications, mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Experienced in Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), First Article Inspection (FAI) processes, process capability concepts including but not limited to Statistical Process Control (SPC) techniques and is capable of mentoring others.
  • Strong computer skills including MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point. Knowledge of Project Management, Access and Visio is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Lean-Six Sigma principles, tools and methodology.
  • Experience in Metrology Systems based on industry standards ISO 17025 and ANSI Z540 is a plus.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent level of experience required. Degree in a related technical field preferred, or a degree in a business-related field with 5-7 years’ experience in quality related activities.
  • Green Belt certification required; Black Belt certification preferred.
  • Lead auditor certification preferred.
  • Nationally recognized quality certification preferred [e.g. American Society for Quality Certified Quality Engineer (ASQ-CQE)
  • Minimum 5 years of quality, engineering, machine shop, assembly or functional testing experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of Quality Management Systems experience, including experience related to document management, internal and/or external audits, nonconforming material control, and root cause and corrective action processes.
  • Experience with calibrations per ISO 17025 is a plus.
