Job Description:

The Manufacturing Engineering – OEM is an engineer focused on the process of assembling product for OEM and other higher volume Mini/1923 customers. This position is responsible for reducing costs through methods, tools, equipment and process improvements. This position requires working knowledge of automation and equipment integration in a medium or high volume production environment.

Duties as follows:

  • Develop manufacturing sequences for new and existing product
  • Develop world class support documentation for building the product
  • Find and implement new technologies and best practices for various component manufacture and assembly
  • Select tools and equipment focusing on automation wherever practical
  • Establish time standards for operations and align work around Takt times required
  • Design assembly line layout using lean principles and use simulation to optimize
  • Develop material handling methods and equipment to support production
  • Develop fixturing and conveying methods to integrate to equipment
  • Determine control parameters and metrics for equipment and line operation
  • Support operation and maintenance of process equipment
  • Work with Production Engineers to resolve quality and productivity problems and to design new parts for lowest cost of manufacture

Success factors:

  • Skilled at working with shop floor operators including building rapport
  • Skilled at working with design engineers and providing feedback on cost to manufacture
  • Knowledgeable of assembly best practices including lean manufacturing
  • Knowledgeable of world class manufacturing processes and equipment
  • Able to document process steps in a clear and orderly fashion and supplement with visual representations
  • Self-motivated and passionate for process improvement
  • Capable of planning and executing project plans to implement
  • Good mechanical aptitude and familiarity with tools and fixtures

Education and skills

  • Ideal candidate would be a college or technical school in Manufacturing Engineering or Industrial Engineering, and 3 or more years of employment at a medium or large manufacturing company as a Manufacturing Engineer.
  • Lean Manufacturing training and experience highly desirable
  • Automation and robotic equipment selection and implementation highly desirable
