Job Summary

The Software Systems and Test Engineer is an individual contributor who requires an undergraduate university degree or equivalent experience. This position requires a knowledgeable worker who applies information and judgement to achieve results and solve problems.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Designs, develops, programs, and tests computer software applications and enhancements
  • Maintains and supports customized software systems
  • Researches and develops software applications for embedded devices related to portable communication products including conceptual design, detail design and coding, qualification testing and documentation.
  • Able to develop and execute appropriate software tests during design & development, verification & validation testing, through system test.
  • Ensures full suite of applicable tests are applied on development software applications for embedded devices related to portable communication products.
  • Consults with hardware engineering team members to evaluate interfaces between hardware and software, and operational requirements of overall system.
  • Disciplined understanding and experience with software development techniques, testing, and documentation.
  • Derives software tests during development that are appropriate on maturity of software build. Analyzes software requirements to determine feasibility of design within performance, time, and cost constraints.
  • Flexible in working in high-paced, Agile development environment to meet needs of high-end aviation customers
  • Other duties as assigned by management

Required skills/abilities

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory. Ability to work with concepts such as limits, rings, quadratic and differential equations, and proofs of theorems.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

Knowledge, Education, and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science (Master’s Degree preferred)
  • Over 5 years relevant design experience with embedded software design applications. Preferred languages are C, C++, Java
  • Over 10 years relevant software testing experience with embedded software design applications. Familiarity with automation tools and scripting languages a plus.
  • Hands on experience programming with Microsoft Visual Studio and microprocessor/microcontroller development systems.
  • Familiar with graphical software design, experience with developing embedded graphical mapping engine software a plus.
  • Experience with JIRA software management tools a plus.
  • Experience with RF communications systems and aviation software development programs (DO-178 certified) a plus.
