Job Description:

This position is for an on-site technician working at the Systems Support Division of the Air Force Research Laboratory’s Materials and Manufacturing Directorate at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. The position will support the technical area of aerospace outer mold line (OML) specialty materials. This person is responsible for assisting technical staff with executing technical programs and maintaining laboratory facilities and equipment. Technical work will include application of OML specialty materials to composite and metallic substrates, adhesively bonding various aerospace materials together to form assemblies, curing materials, machining specimens, environmentally aging, performing material evaluation tests to identify material properties, and performing routine maintenance to laboratory equipment.

Minimum Qualifications
• High school graduate or equivalent
• Due to the nature of this position, U.S. Citizenship is required. The ability to obtain and maintain an active SECRET security clearance with access to Special Access Programs (SAP) will be required for continued employment in this position.
• A minimum of eight years of experience working with DoD platform technical orders and/or military specifications.
• A minimum of eight years of directly related experience with DoD aircraft maintenance operations, specifically related to OML specialty materials (coatings, seals, boots, tapes, gap fillers, etc.).
• A minimum of eight years of experience working with and applying aerospace coating systems. This includes adhesion promoters, primers, topcoats, conductive paints, and/or other aerospace specialty coatings.
• Must be able to obtain respirator qualification.
• Candidate must possess excellent organizational skills and have a proven history of working on multiple technical projects simultaneously.
• Excellent written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
• Currently holds a DoD SECRET Clearance or higher with investigation/reinvestigation within last six years.
• Associates degree or technically-related formalized training beyond high school diploma.
• Experienced with handling and disposal requirements for hazardous materials.
• History of working with aerospace grade polymers, polymer matrix composites, and adhesives.
• Experienced working with aerospace grade sealants, molded seals, and other elastomeric materials.
• Experience working on a U.S. Department of Defense installation.
• Proficient using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.
• Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to successfully interact with a variety of personality types.
