*LOCATED AT EGLIN, AFB, FLORIDA* The University of Dayton Research Institute has an opportunity for a highly motivated energetics processor/machinist to support operations at the AFRL Munitions Directorate at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. The person in this position will work under direct supervision on routine tasks, and work closely and with frequent review and guidance from experienced machinists and technicians on specific tasks to ensure compliance with safety procedures and established practices. The person filling this position will be expected to learn and perform the following tasks:
Prepare energetic test samples to include: machining energetics, perform quality control and dimensional inspections.
Uses precision tools, gauges, dies, and fixtures to perform energetic material machining operations. Uses manual and computer numerical controlled (CNC) machines such as mills, lathes, and band saws to manufacture energetic test articles. Writes programs for ServesCNC machines using Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM), along with manual data input.
Disassembles, assembles, and fits component parts per customer supplied drawings or specifications. Uses energetic materials machining equipment, tools, and supplies to produce surface finishing specifications for components. Extracts broken or damaged hardware. Uses metal working equipment, tools, and supplies to meet precision specifications and tolerances. Maintains and inspects hand tools and machinery. Performs operator maintenance and service inspections on shop equipment and tools.
Interprets technical publications, blueprints, and drawings to resolve problems related to energetic machining. Provides assistance in establishing priorities for completion of work orders and resolving scheduling conflicts. Maintains and documents equipment, supply, certification, and training. Evaluates requirements and prepares quality assurance reports.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 3 years related experience.
Formal technical training in the set up and operation of manual and CNC machines, to include mills, lathes, and band saws.
Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required.
Candidate must be able to obtain a Secret level security clearance and Department of Defense explosive certification within 1-year of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience or knowledge of the following:
use of precision measuring devices and tools
use of Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM)
use of fabrication and layout fixture devices
common or standard safety codes and practices
proper handling, use, and disposal of hazardous waste/energetic materials

Willing to work off-shift hours.
An active Secret security clearance is highly desirable.
