As a Principal Investigator in the Group, this individual will be leading projects and programs within the Chemical Analysis Laboratory, which provides chemical, elemental, and molecular analysis to the US government (largely in support of failed field component and mishap investigations for the DoD), industrial customers, and internal support to other UDRI and University partners. Interested candidates should have project leadership experience as well as a background with a wide variety of materials analysis techniques so as to ensure the timely, accurate analysis and interpretation of material data and the final deliverables to the customers

Minimum Qualifications

This position requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree, with an advanced technical degree preferred in relevant technical disciplines, specifically chemistry, chemical/materials engineering or materials science.

A minimum of 5 years of experience in a related field, focused on chemistry or chemical analysis is required. Extensive knowledge of materials analysis techniques (IR, AA, XRF, ICP, DSC, TGA, GC-MS, etc.) is necessary.

A qualified candidate must demonstrate a broad history of hands-on laboratory experience.

This position interacts directly with US Government research organizations as well as industrial customers; therefore experience with both Government and industrial customers is required.

Due to the nature of this position, U.S. Citizenship is required.

The ability to obtain at SECRET security clearance is required.

Preferred Qualifications

A Ph.D. in chemistry, or chemical/materials engineering or materials science is preferred. As a general rule, work experience gained during an advanced degree program (M.S. or Ph.D) counts as a maximum of two years (at half time) of directly related work experience.

Employees in this category must be capable of effectively applying comprehensive knowledge and skills in a sustained and consistent manner as a principal member of a research group.

Previous experience with the following: developing test plans, conducting experiments, analyzing data, and generating customer deliverables such as reports and presentations

The candidate must display excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as demonstrated experience in program management with effective time management.

This position may involve supervisory responsibilities (of other professionals, technicians, or students) so experience in personnel supervision is preferred.

A preferred candidate will have experience independently identifying appropriate research projects, obtaining support for such projects, and successfully conducting or providing technical leadership in the resultant investigations.

The ability to troubleshoot equipment, understand the mechanical intricacies of test equipment, and the ability to modify and/or optimize equipment for unique customer projects is a preferred skillset.

Previous clearance to Special Access Programs (SAP) or the reasonable expectation to be granted SAP clearances is a preferred quality.
