Job Description:

The candidate selected for this position will support the execution of research related to the chemical analysis of various metallic and nonmetallic materials as a member of the Materialography and Analytics Group within the Nonstructural Materials Division of UDRI. This Group uses a wide variety of state-of-the art instrumentation combined with classic wet chemistry techniques and methodologies to accomplish its mission. This position will be supporting the Chemical Analysis Laboratory, which provides chemical, elemental, and molecular analysis to the US government (largely in support of failed field component and mishap investigations for the DoD), industrial customers, and internal support to other UDRI and University partners. Interested candidates must have experience with a wide variety of materials analysis techniques so as to ensure the timely, accurate analysis and interpretation of material data related to these techniques.

Preferred Qualifications

An advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D) in chemistry, or chemical/materials engineering or materials science is preferred. As a general rule, work experience gained during an advanced degree program (M.S. or Ph.D) counts as a maximum of two years (at half time) of directly related work experience.

Employees in this category must be capable of effectively applying comprehensive knowledge and skills in a sustained and consistent manner as a member of a research group.

The candidate should demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as demonstrated experience in time management and must be verifiable by references.

Previous experience executing test plans, conducting experiments, assisting with and analyzing data, and contributing to or generating customer deliverables such as reports and presentations.
A preferred candidate will have experience independently identifying appropriate research projects, obtaining support for such projects, and successfully conducting or providing technical leadership in the resultant investigations.
Knowledge of general wet chemistry techniques such as titration and digestion.

The ability to troubleshoot equipment, understand the mechanical intricacies of test equipment, and the ability to modify and/or optimize equipment for unique customer projects is a preferred skillset.

Previous clearance to Special Access Programs (SAP) or the reasonable expectation to be granted SAP clearances is a preferred quality.
