Job Description:

An opportunity has become available within our Mechanical Maintenance Department for a Technician to join the team. Working as part of a team our Mechanical Maintenance Technician will carry out the repairs and installation work on all mechanical equipment, to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the company’s equipment.

Main Duties:

  • Responsible for the complete overhaul and repair of any mechanical equipment at any of LondonEnergy Limited’s sites, including the lubrication of such equipment. This may involve machining to close tolerances, welding and steel fabrication, pipe fitting, plumbing and, subject to suitable training, will disconnect and reconnect motors, solenoids and coils up to 415V to aid in the completion of work and test and replace fuses (like for like) up to 415V.
  • Diagnosing faults and carrying out effective repairs without supervision during the normal working day and when on callout duty.
  • Supplying and maintaining in good order, a comprehensive range of basic Fitter’s tools
  • Participating in the training of staff and undertaking training necessary for completing the role fully.
  • Comprehensively completing appropriate documents as deemed necessary by the supervisor.
  • Inspecting and supervising work carried out by contractors when directed by a Mechanical Supervisor.
  • Operation of a MEWP and driving a Forklift Truck

Specific Requirements:

The nature of the job is such that many plant failures necessitate immediate action and this may require working outside normal working hours on occasion. Such failures require the safest, fastest and most effective repair possible; hence a commitment to working to such hours either on a call-out basis or overtime is essential.

The nature of the Plant is such that Fitters will have to work in confined spaces and carry out work at height,

Direct experience in the repair and overhaul of the following plant is desirable:

  • Water Tube Boilers and associated plant
  • Steam Turbines
  • Pumps
  • Cranes (including overhead grabbing cranes)
  • Hydraulic Systems
  • Compressors
  • Fans
  • Conveyors
  • Abatement Plant (e.g. precipitators, Flue Gas Treatment plant (FGT), Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) etc.
  • Fire Protection systems

The Person:

  • Must have a high level of determination to complete tasks.
  • Take a high level of interest in tasks assigned, with ownership and accountability for the tasks.
  • The ability to work with others.
  • Have a logical approach to fault finding.
  • Possess a considerate and approachable manner.
  • Personal circumstances must permit availability for response to being “called in” outside of normal working hours.
  • All applicants should hold City & Guilds or similar vocational qualifications and have completed an apprenticeship or recognized training in mechanical fitting
