Polymer Scientist / Proposal Writer / Group Leader

The Position: We are looking for a polymer science chemist or chemical engineer with synthesis aptitude, the ability to analyze materials using a variety of characterization equipment, and the capability to write concise technical reports describing experimental results. This position also entails writing proposals, traveling to meet customers and partners, and directing/managing group members to complete tasks. The position works closely with other Group Leaders and reports to the CEO.

Requirements:
  • Ph.D. in chemistry or chemical engineering at a minimum. Polymer Science background is preferred.
  • Good laboratory and writing (technical and proposal) skills.
  • Some industrial experience with manufacturing equipment such as large-scale reactors, extruders, injection molders, filament winders or similar systems preferred.
  • Applicants must be US citizens to participate in many of NanoSonic’s programs.
  • Applicants must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or receive a religious or medical waiver as NanoSonic is subject to Executive Order 14042. 
Specific Areas of Interest:
  • Polymer nanocomposites; nanostructured materials and surfaces; polymer morphology and structure-property relationships; surface and interface phenomena in polymers
  • Additive manufacturing, composite processing, smart materials, advanced materials, structural composites, multifunctional coatings
  • Nanomaterial dispersion and characterization, manufacturing process development, novel nanocomposite characterization techniques, transport at polymer / particle interfaces and in multi-phase systems
Responsibilities:
  • Direct and perform chemistry laboratory procedures.
  • Fabricate material samples for analysis.
  • Work with multiple chemists and scientists on a variety of different projects.
  • Take concise and detailed laboratory notes based on experiments performed.
  • Write reports describing laboratory procedures followed and results obtained.
  • Write proposals describing innovative ideas and problem solving.
  • Interact with other laboratory staff.
