The Track Maintenance Engineer (TME) is absolutely fundamental in overseeing the day to day and strategic management of the Track Team relating to Maintenance, Inspection and Renewals in terms of Safety, Compliance, Performance, People and Finance to deliver a Safe, Compliant, Reliable and Efficient Operational Railway that Puts Passengers First and makes NR High Speed a great place to work where our people feel valued, all managed responsibly within budgetary constraints and standards.

  Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and direct the Track Maintenance team in the attainment of relevant function objectives.
  • Manage assets so they remain safe and fit for full operational use, or that mitigating actions are taken to protect traffic.

  • Arrange that assets are inspected and maintained to CTRL Track standards. Plan and undertake engineer’s visual inspections and cab riding.

  • Direct all track work so they are correctly identified, appropriately prioritised and included in annual and quarterly work plans.

  • Develop annual and quarterly track maintenance work plans to optimise the use of key resources and deliver greater value for money.

  • Plan and undertake surveillance and audit checks to secure adherence to standards and procedures.

  • Undertake investigations into incidents and accidents affecting own staff and make recommendations that will reduce the risk of re-occurrence.

  • Manage all off-track and line side assets (including vegetation, drainage, earthworks and fences), so that they are inspected at the required frequency and that corrective work is identified and incorporated into annual and quarterly plans.

  • Arrange that all relevant standards and procedures are controlled and briefed to relevant staff.  

Essential

           Able to demonstrate relevant Railway experience

           Detailed understanding of financial issues

           Able to effectively communicate to all levels of people inside and outside the business

           Possess a detailed practical knowledge of Safety Management

           Strong problem solving skills

           Leadership of a multi-disciplinary team
