Job Summary:
The Tribal Engineering Associate will perform intermediate to complex engineering and project management work.
 
Essential Functions:
  • The work involves applying advanced technical engineering knowledge to the solution of Tribal engineering problems in the planning, design, construction management and maintenance, and review of impacts to the Tribe’s infrastructure: water, sewage, drainage, and streets.
  • Engineering Associates are responsible for managing several projects at once.
  • Work is performed independently but under the direction of a professional engineer.
  • Responsible for performing technical plan review of the existing infrastructure system through development proposals. 
  • Work closely with the Planner and Public Works Coordinator, they will assist in developing engineer’s estimate for potential projects, design and manage projects on the Capital Improvement Program (CIP). They will provide support to the Engineering and Planning Manager as needed on projects.
  • Ensures Public Works activities are in compliance with Tribal ordinances, policies, procedures, rules, regulations and other compliance documents as set forth by the Tribe, and ensuring additional compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies including but not limited to BIA, OSHA, EPA, ACOE, ODOT, DEQ, and DSL.
  • Coordinates inventories of reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, tests, aerial photographs, soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and other topographical and geologic data to create and update a data base for Tribal lands maps within local communities.
  • Assists with field work as needed.
  • Performs a variety of other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Education, Experience, and Licenses:
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or professional school equivalent in engineering degree.
  • Requires five (5) years of experience involving design and construction management of multi-million dollar projects, including building code and environmental compliance.
  • OR equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Must maintain a valid Oregon driver’s license or obtain one upon hire, qualify for the Tribe’s vehicle insurance, and provide proof of personal vehicle insurance.
Qualifications, Registrations, and Certifications:
  • Requires State Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification at the time of hire.
  • Knowledge of the theory, principles and practices associated with Civil Engineering design.
  • Knowledge  of  the  principles  and  practices  of  project management, such as contract  administration  and/or  construction management.
  • Knowledge of and experience with computers and software pertaining to civil engineering. 
  • Experience deriving information from plans and maps.
  • Basic knowledge and ability to derive information from specifications, regulations, and/or codes.
  • Ability to interact effectively, problem solve, and partner with team members in a diverse workforce.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical information verbally and in writing to stakeholders & customers.
  • Must have the ability to multi-task and work on tight timelines.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to Native American culture required.
