Job Summary (Mid-Level Estimator):

The Estimator will the development of detailed cost estimates and proposals for heavy civil construction projects. 2+ years construction estimating experience preferred.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Prepare portions of contract proposal estimates for one or more disciplines, including the determination of applicable project plans and specifications.
  • Perform detailed quantity take-offs using AGTEK and Bluebeam
  • Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine the scope of work and required contents of estimate.
  • Prepare discipline estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work.
  • Review design options and recommend the best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials.
  • Calculate various statistical data: quantity take-offs, material price lists, labor costs per man-hour, equipment, etc.
  • Research historical data (purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, etc.) and compile summary reports to develop guidelines and precedence for future estimates.
  • Participate in developing project updates and bid package estimate documents.
  • Maintain files of working documents for back-up for estimate figures.
  • Assist in the monitoring of conceptual estimates with actual cost data.
  • Minimum supervision provided when estimating items in own discipline.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Proficiency in B2W estimating software or equivalent program for Civil Estimating.
  • Proficiency in Agtek takeoff software preferred.
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam preferred

Job Summary (Senior Estimator):
 
  • Research and track new bidding opportunities within the company's primary and secondary markets
  • Review project plans and specifications to determine nature and scope of projects
  • Engage in strategic alliance with operations to develop win strategy and leadership of the bid team
  • Lead the estimate procedure from strategy review through bid closing as the Project Bid Sponsor
  • Perform timely and accurate project take-offs
  • Perform thorough pre-bid site investigations
  • Utilize Bid2Win estimating software to build the project estimate
  • Utilize Primavera P6 to prepare bid schedules to be used to determine resource demands and project risks
  • Assemble the lowest accurate cost through assignment of crews, productions, schedules, materials and subcontracting opportunities by utilizing past experience and cost history as a guide
  • Coordinate all bid communications with owner, designer, subcontractors, and material suppliers
  • Assemble a complete and accurate bid package for review
  • Ensure that all subcontracted scopes of work have been solicited and will be quoted complete
  • Lead project bid review, and ensure agreed upon changes are accurately reflected in final estimate
  • Perform subcontract and material supplier quote review and ensure accurate entry
  • Complete bid closing and assignment of bid unit prices
  • Identify, solicit and obtain appropriate level of DBE partners throughout the bid process, ensure that project goals have been met
  • Manage final bid package throughout final delivery and/or bid submission
  • Perform all duties while maintaining company values and ethics

 Job Requirements:

  • Minimum 8 years experience in Heavy Civil, Highway Construction
  • Concrete Paving experience is preferred and highly recommended
  • Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office (Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook and software such as B2W and/or Primera P6
  • Will be the Lead Person in charge of the estimate, strong attention to detail
  • Good communication skills on the phone, written and presentation is a must
  • Intimate knowledge of construction productivities is a must
  • Airfield, DOD, and Design Build experience is preferred
