This work will drive novel research focused on in-situ process monitoring, data collection, and analysis of metallic additive manufacturing via Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF). This position will work with AFRL engineers/scientists to perform research designed to advance current understanding of the effects of laser manufacturing processes on materials through sensor development, implementation, data collection, and data analysis. Work activities may include:
• Planning and executing in-situ sensor focused experiments
• Integrating and modifying in-situ process sensors
• Operating, in-situ sensors/suites for laser powder bed fusion machinery
• Collecting and analyzing AM build data, including in-situ process monitoring data
• Working with analysis tools to extract physical meaning from in-situ process data
• Interfacing with machine learning, NDE, and characterization expertise at UDRI and AFRL to correlate in-situ process data to other data sources
• Building and routing of specimens for data collection, characterization, testing, and correlation
• Interfacing with data collection and management tools
This position will work with a team of AM research scientist in a new additive manufacturing research lab at AFRL.
