Description

This opportunity will provide systems engineering, verification and validation (V&V) coordination, and system level integration support at MSFC.

The successful candidate will supply support for the development of key systems engineering products including V&V planning documentation, test planning documentation, support program/project milestones, assessment of software verification compliance, and subsequent activities where these products are assessed and matured. Responsibilities include:

  • Apply engineering principles to investigate, analyze, plan, design, develop, implement, test, or evaluate computer and telecommunications systems.
  • Review and prepare engineering and technical analysis reports, change proposals, and other technical documentation.
  • Apply engineering principles to perform functions such as computer system architecture design, computer system integration, computer and telecommunications configuration management, and quality assurance testing of computer and telecommunications systems, audio and video associated support systems.
  • Responsible for developing project plans, justifications, guidelines, and controls.

   

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in systems and software engineering, integration, and knowledge of complex life cycle end-to-end development ranging from requirements development, system architecture definition, functional design, design integration, requirement verification, and/or requirement validation that ultimately leads to flight certification.

  • Must demonstrate initiative and be proactive to make connections and build relationships with key customers, both internal and external.

  • Demonstrated ability to plan and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and adaptation of standard techniques.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated strong technical writing and presentation skills to present data to study customers.

  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team to accomplish program objectives.

  • Expertise and knowledge about the design, integration and management of complex ground systems used in military or civilian spacecraft monitoring and/or command and control applications.

  • Experience and familiarity with ground systems that receive, process, and distribute telemetry from military or civilian spacecraft in a complex ground system environment.

  • Experience and knowledge of system requirements plus analysis and change evaluation.

  • Expertise performing testing and evaluation on complex ground systems to meet mission objectives.

  • Demonstrated expertise in activities to support considerations for schedule, cost and technical risk.

  • Demonstrated expertise and familiarity with complex software and systems development activities that employ waterfall, agile and spiral development life cycle methodologies.

  • Demonstrated expertise for development and technical assessment of mission objectives, implementation planning and problem identification and resolution.

 

Desired Experience:

  • An overall familiarity with launch vehicle and spacecraft systems including orbital mechanics, propulsion, structural design, thermal, avionics, guidance and control, power, and communications are desired for this position.

  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team to accomplish program objectives is desired.

  • Demonstrated capability to perform analyses independently and with a team is highly desired.

  • Knowledge of NASA policies is desired.

 

Education

Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Systems Engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited university is required. Typically, educational requirements are a MS with at least 3 years of experience, or a BS with at least 5 years of experience.

 

Security clearance: U.S. Citizenship is required for this position.
