Job Description:

SUMMARY: Provide conceptual design, mechanical design, prototyping supervision and testing of new products.
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Product Development
    • Seek & define Applications/Customer design requirements in concept phase
    • Provide technical support to marketing in the preparation of New Product Business Opportunity Statements
    • Design highly reliable electro-mechanical products using computer aided design 3d Modeling computer system.
    • Participate in design reviews throughout the Product Development Process (PDP)
    • As required, serve as the leader of cross functional Product Development Teams (PDT) during the development of new Products
    • Work to performance and cost/volume targets.
    • Conduct tolerance analysis and finite element material properties analysis
    • Generate detailed drawings to VPC standards using GTD as appropriate.
    • Design experiments / test plans to assure compliance to reliability requirements.
    • Develop test plans and perform testing or over-see technicians in testing.
    • Document or support the documentation of test results
    • Use Design for Manufacturability Methods to work with suppliers, VPC manufacturing and other teams to achieve desired results.
  • Sustain Engineering Efforts
    • Use applications/product knowledge to:
      • Serve as consultant for RNP’s to filter out rejects, determine the most feasible way to provide a quality quote in the least amount of time.
      • Use PDP methods mentioned above to design complex product extensions of existing products.
      • Serve as consultant to provide high level applications engineering support to customers.
      • Use engineering analysis to resolve customer application issues
      • Use engineering analysis to resolve customer quality issues on legacy product.
      • Provide support with Eng. Change Notice (ECN) process
      • Lead cost reduction efforts for legacy products. 
  • Support Manufacturing Efforts
    • Use understanding of VPC manufacturing competencies engineering skills, to: 
      • Support manufacturing to resolve issues during production of existing products
      • Support quality department in investigations to improve product quality
      • Support manufacturing engineering in cost saving or process improvement projects.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree (BA) from four-year college or university in Mechanical Engineering and training in the design and testing of small, high reliability electromechanical devices.
  • 5 years of CAD experience – Solidworks preferred. Familiarity with internet software, e-mail, word processing and spreadsheets. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, LabVIEW and Altium PCB Design software a plus.
  • Familiarity with electrical test equipment and various manufacturing processes preferred.
