Job Description:

The IoT senior engineer is central to the mission of the Midea America Research Center and plays a critical role in driving new US products and smart technology. This role requires both strong technical skills as well as IoT business acumen to conceive, specify and evaluate smart product innovations that exceed customer expectations. The IoT Senor Engineer works collaboratively with the Midea America Product Manager as well as Midea America Research Center platform managers to drive the US IoT strategy. The IoT senior engineer will assure that Midea smart products meet US technical requirements. Furthermore, the IoT Senior Engineer will work with industry and regulatory bodies as an active participant in standard setting.
Travel within the US to meet with technology partners and Midea employees is required at times. Regular travel to China will be required. 
Desired Skills and Expertise
  • Ten years or more experience in IoT/Smart Home research and product development.
  • Minimum Master’s degree in Computer/Software Engineering or related field.
  • Creative thinker, strong smart innovation skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of Wi-Fi, ZigBee, Z-wave and other relevant smart/IoT standards and regulations, etc.
  • Experience implementing IoT features in a consumer product environment (e.g. iOS and/or Android app development and/or back-end (cloud) software development).
  • Also experience with voice control technologies (e.g. Alexa, Google assistant, Siri,etc.) and other home automation initiatives (e.g. Matter).
  • Good business instincts - identifies opportunities from trends.
  • Ability to identify and utilize appropriate technology partners to augment skill sets.
  • Strong influence and advocacy skills.
  • Experience working with remote product development teams.
  • Strong facilitation skills. Ability to lead others in innovative thought and processes. Knowledge of innovation processes.
  • Experience with open innovation and collaboration in an engineering environment.
  • Solid understanding of consumer product development process and manufacturing.
  • Goal oriented and self-managed.
  • Experience with international, cross-cultural teams and interactions.
Responsibilities
  • Work with Midea America Corporation product manager(s) to identify unmet consumer needs.
  • Translate consumer needs into product/technology opportunities.
  • Create smart/IoT product specifications.
  • Work in cross functional and cross-cultural teams to ensure the IoT/smart home features and/or services conform to specifications and meet the performance needs of multiple product categories.
  • Evaluate new products for market appropriateness and functional performance over wide range of phones/routers.
  • Create/Manage IoT lab and evaluation needs.
  • Provide training materials for Tiers 1 & 2 customer service and serve (or staff) Tier 3 support.
  • Monitor and participate in appropriate IoT/Smart regulatory and standard setting bodies.
