Job Description:

SHINE is immediately seeking a Safety Analysis Engineer is to work with a dynamic team of engineers to evaluate the safety and operability of their systems, supporting the design optimization process to reduce risk and ensure safety. Being part of the SHINE Engineering team provides an opportunity to be at the forefront of bringing new nuclear technology to market. SHINE engineers are designing systems that will help diagnose heart disease, treat cancer, and take us another step closer to clean energy.

Areas of evaluation for this team include radiological safety, chemical safety, criticality safety, and fire hazard analysis. Team activities include supporting NRC and state licensing needs, conducting hazard evaluations, maintenance of the SHINE safety analysis, and performing analyses to support the design evaluations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Actively participate in team discussion on safety, fostering an open dialogue on the best ways to reduce risk and ensure safety, while bringing new designs to market.
  • Perform evaluations of system and component designs, including hazard evaluations (e.g., HAZOP, FMEA), nuclear criticality evaluations, and consequence calculations.
  • Support NRC and state licensing activities including answering requests for additional information (RAIs) and participating in audits and public meetings.
  • Demonstrate accountability for commitments, including schedule performance.
  • Produce quality work, free of errors, including appropriate bases for assumptions, inputs, and methodologies used.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant engineering discipline.
  • Ability to work cooperatively within a team, considering different viewpoints and priorities.
  • Direct and open communication style, showing respect to all individuals and their ideas.
  • Ability to work independently, to solve problems and make consistent progress.
  • Flexibility and sense of urgency to handle unexpected requests and address urgent needs within the organization.

Preferences:

  • Background in hazard evaluation or safety analysis within the nuclear or chemical industry.
  • Experience with nuclear analysis or consequence analysis codes such as MCNP, ALOHA, or PAVAN.
  • Familiarity with nuclear industry design, operations, and regulatory requirements.
  • 10 CFR 50 and 10 CFR 70 accident analysis experience.
