Job Description:

SHINE is immediately seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support the nuclear and mechanical systems in the Nuclear Systems Engineering Group, which ensure the safe, efficient, and effective design of the nuclear systems equipment.  Key responsibilities include working with vendors to finalize design for fabrication, reviewing final design for installation and operability considerations, preparing or approving equipment test plans, participating in factory acceptance tests and site acceptance tests, performing site walkdowns, and other final design, procurement, installation, and testing tasks. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare and/or review design packages, specifications, test plans, calculations, reports, and drawings in the following areas:
    • Nuclear Systems packages fabrication and use.
    • Piping, valves, and tanks design, use, installation, and testing
    • Seismic design work review.
    • Fluid flow and heat transfer
    • Other nuclear and mechanical calculations
  • Work with procurement and management to downselect vendor.
  • Work with procurement to purchase equipment  
  • Work with equipment vendors on factory acceptance tests, site acceptance tests, and on-time/on-budget design and/or delivery of chemical process equipment
  • Perform owner’s acceptance reviews for vendor provided reports and calculations
  • Prepare/review test plans for factory and site acceptance testing of equipment
  • Perform walk-downs of installed equipment in the field

Responsibilities will be assigned based on experience, education, and desire to learn specific areas.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Engineering Mechanics, or related discipline.

  • 1+ years of experience in engineering
  • Ability to oversee multiple projects/activities in an environment with changing priorities
  • Willingness to learn, understand, and develop new technology
  • Willingness to learn Nuclear regulations and requirements.
  • Ability to design first of a kind system in a team environment with coworkers and/or vendors
  • Experience making design decisions while taking risk into account
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • The following experience is preferred:
    • Experience with valves.
    • Experience in Structural calculations.
    • Experience in ASME requirements.
    • Experience working with procurement to obtain equipment.
    • Experience working with vendors on final system design and testing.
    • Experience writing requirements documents.
  • Experience in any of the following areas would make a candidate stand out:
    • Experience with equipment that handles radioactive materials.
    • Project Management.
    • Experience with cGMP.
